QNIS on the road to meet Queen's Nurses around Scotland

QNIS’ Chief Executive and Nurse Director, Sarah Doyle, and Professional Nurse Lead, Emma Legge, have been making their way around Scotland this summer to catch up with Queen’s Nurses and their local community nurse leads in each territorial health board.

A group of ten people standing in a line indoors, smiling at the camera. Each person is wearing a blue and black tartan sash over their shoulder, secured with a circular pin. They are dressed in a mix of casual and smart-casual clothing. The background features a plain wall with two framed landscape paintings. The setting appears to be an office or meeting room with carpeted flooring and a tiled ceiling.

So far, they have visited Tayside, Fife, Ayrshire and Arran, Lanarkshire, Lothian, and Grampian, and have very much appreciated the warm welcome they received at each event.

Sarah and Emma have been sharing the newly published QNIS Strategic Plan for 2025-2030 (click here to read), discussing their plans for a refresh of the Queen’s Nurse Development Programme, and hearing the views and ideas of Queen's nurses and nurse leads.

These events have not only been an opportunity for Sarah and Emma to connect with Queen’s Nurses but have also been a chance for Queen’s Nurses to connect with each other, and for them to start conversations about how they might work together to promote health equity.

Commenting on the events, Sarah said: "Each conversation has been slightly different, but all have been characterised by a deeply inspiring commitment to community nursing in all shapes and forms, and to the support and development of the next generation of community nurses and community nurse leaders."

Emma added: “It's the best part of my job to spend time with such positive and passionate nurses and midwives. I'm always inspired by their ongoing determination to give the best of themselves, and to keep thinking creatively about how to deliver person-centred care to those most in need in their communities.”

Further events are planned for the autumn and next year, with Sarah and Emma intending to arrange visits to all 14 territorial health boards.

The individuals are dressed in a variety of casual and business-casual clothing. The room has a patterned carpet, white walls, and a ceiling with recessed lighting and ventilation panels. Some people are wearing lanyards, indicating a professional or organisational gathering.
