What we do
We are a charity that is focused on providing high-quality professional development opportunities for Scotland’s community nurses and midwives, encouraging them to tackle health and care inequalities in collaboration with the people they care for.
We make awards for long service to community nurses and midwives who have worked 21 years or more in community settings.
We provide friendship, connection, and support for retired Queen’s Nurses who trained before 1969.
Alongside this, we provide information on community nursing and midwifery careers and advocate for the profession, ensuring that community nursing and midwifery perspectives influence policy and legislation.
Queen's Nurse title
Queen’s Nursing in Scotland dates back to the late 19th century when our charity was first established. QNIS provided training for community nurses for many decades until the 1960s, when the NHS took over. But in 2017, we decided to reintroduce the Queen’s Nurse title to Scotland.
